Scoti*Slate’s album “Good Fight” is intriguing. It’s intriguing because the band serves up such a wide range of sounds, from sleek modern rock spiced up with funky rhythms, to hard-and-rough rockers, and even twisting some pop/rock into the mix. It’s also intriguing because every now and then, “Good Fight” makes me flash back to the 1980s-versions of INXS, David Bowie and Prince, and that doesn’t happen to me very often. Aaron Scoti on vocals and Lars Slate on guitar are Scoti*Slate’s main guys – the band’s creators and song-writers – and they’re a good team, bringing strong musicianship (there’s some excellent guitar-work throughout the album), good vocals, and solidly crafted lyrics and tunes. The production is also excellent: the music has a clean, fresh sound that fits the material like a glove.
