There is a new sound in clubland and it belongs to Sod – the founding genius of The Arena one of Ibiza’s hottest parties in 2013. Based at Vista Club, The Arena drew music geeks and party freaks from around the world to savour its drama, sex and showmanship, set to a deep underground beat. Sod politely declines to reveal his identity: “You don’t need to know my real name” he says. “Just listen to the music”. His first loves were soul, funk and hip-hop and from there he followed his muse into the futuristic world of electronic music. His musical reference points include DJs like Sven Vath, Carl Cox and Richie Hawtin, but when Sod steps behind the decks his sound and style is utterly distinct. Combining deep house and techno with an innate gift for reading the crowd, he creates irresistible mixes that take the dancers into a world of dark hedonism and salacious secrets. SOD’s productions such as ‘Your First Time!’ and the infectious ‘Ola Keta’ capture the freedom and energy of his club sets. His international sensibility is equally at home in the subterranean haunts of Berlin, Latin America, or beneath the stars in Ibiza. “It is essential to draw on different sounds, styles, and textures to create a great party.” When he’s not deploying dancefloor hits, SOD is crafting future hits in the studio. He takes pride in creating tracks as instantly recognisable as his DJ mixes. “I make music for my global party tribe,” he says. “From Brazil to Burning Man, it is sound that brings us together.”
