DJ Dave Bass Ð House at last.David's birth - an unconventional New Year's Eve Surprise: New Year's Eve 1968 was when David Vendryes saw the light of day in Kingston, Jamaica, ending, though unintentionally, but inevitably, the New Year's party of his mother. But this gift, to move people, should be an important cornerstone of his later career.David spent his early childhood through fifth grade in New York City, where he attended a Catholic Prep school. At the tender age of 10 years, he went back to his native country, where he and other kids were busy with the drudgery of school - not remotely interested in his musical future. Because at that time he had no appetite for music, but for football. T his would however change quickly. No time to stand still!David's life journey continued in 1982 when he was 14years he moved to Germany to complete his education in Munich. Of course this was his youth and fun, music andlust to pursue his passion, were more important than school. He threw his first event in '84 out of necessity. For as an underage teen , no club would grant entry, let alone enterthe trendy parties. Without further ado, he hired the thenstar DJ in town and threw an afternoon jam for himself and his mates. The success proved him right - he had the right idea at the right time. The first important steps were made!Suddenly he moved in the circles of the party scene, made acquaintance with party people and the movers and shakers of Munich nightlife. But most of the time he spent in OPTIMAL- THE record shop in Germany - to buy records obsessively and absorb the different styles of mainly electronic music..No turning back ... the way is paved. At 18, there was no stopping him. In the next few years, he spent his time mainly in the club scene, rather than to dedicate time to his business degree. Roaming all over from Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Milan, Barcelona, Berlin ...Techno and House became an obsession.Around this time the Love Parade got underway and David lost his musical heart to electronic music. Back in Bavaria, he soon had to realize that not everyone' shared his worldly taste in music. In the beginning he flew out of a few clubs, because he refused to play pop and rock hits let alone take on requests. Yet very few people understood that David knew exactly what he wanted ... 100% HOUSE!It was not until 1994, that he was able to take his mark as resident at the Munich club TABOO and move the hearts of the guests with the right beat. But good is not good enough Ð Where was the challenge? Dave hated it to play every time with the same local DJs . ÒNo spice, no flavorÓ as he claims. But what to do?He discovered in the fine-print on one of his records the necessary impetus: The next day he called Ray Barney in Chicago, who at the time pressed most of the underground house records and through him got connected to the very people who were making the music. He started to book them for his events. Big international names should follow in the coming years. It was also time to professionalize his musical quest:David started his own label "bigtunes" initially pressing only "white labels" and organizing the distribution of the first cuts literally out of the trunk. 2004 came the digital revolution and "bigtunes" saw its buoyancy and deserved break. Here Dave rises to the occasion.Turbulent times lay ahead.End of the 90's ,David left Germany and spent the next few years in Jamaica, Cuba, Argentina, Peru, Chile and Brazil. Instead of the planned 3-month stay in Brazil he spent all together 9 years in South America. Here he was right on target.Endlich zu ÒHouseÓ - Home at last?Different cultures and musical traditions influence Dave in his creative work. Whether reggae, rap and hip-hop, samba, forro, afroperuvian and native Inca music, NDW and new wave, trance and techno. His tracks have the feel of a musical journey around the world - and Dave has tossed the gift of these influences in a hat and brought to blossom a unique and qualitative House. No wonder with his restless past and multicultural influences, inspiration and contacts.David lives in Berlin, runs his label with passion and still spins every now and then.April 28th sees the launch of a monthly Òbigtunes showcaseÓ in Berlin where he will be joined by friends he has met throughout the years roaming the globe.
