Dynamic duos have long reigned as kings and queens of music production across the entire spectrum of genres. From Lennon and McCarthy, to Andre 3000 and Big Boi, to Stewart and Lennox, to Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers and Deep Dish. Such artists have changed the course of music with their audacity and ingenuity, cementing their names in history whilst earning the respect of their peers in expanding the boundaries of their respective genres. It’s easy to see why. Apart from the old saying, “Two heads are better than one,” when two minds have a creative connection, ideas flow like a rapid river, allowing both minds to complement each other. This is as true for electronic music and each of its sub genres, as it is for any other. It is equally as true for two young men hailing from the south coast of Ireland, who make up Charm Quarks.Like so many electronic producers before them, Charm Quarks Daniel Lyons and Marc Harty started out as musicians, spending their early lives learning to play various instruments. Both grew up listening to contrasting styles of music that have ultimately shaped their musical tastes today, allowing them each to bring so much to the studio to create the original sounds of Charm Quarks.Daniel Lyons was first to fall for electronic music. At a young age, he began DJing at various parties and local clubs. It wasn’t long before he was experimenting with his own sounds and producing in studio. Coming from a country home in South Ireland, Daniel had the perfect creative environment to develop his skills and spent the majority of his teenage years shut away in his little home studio.Marc Harty was more of a latecomer to the electronic scene. A very musical childhood culminated in grade A GCSE and a wealth of musical knowledge. He has been involved in compositions ranging from classical, jazz, pop, rock, folk, indie and ultimately electronic music. The vastness of his musical experience serves as an important cog in the Charm Quarks’ engine. Both met in university, studying for a degree that focused essentially on sound production. This, coupled with a chemistry that has seen them shine creatively, brought them close together, while perfecting their production skills. During their time at university, they were both front runners in the DJ society, and both played at major venues frequented by some of the biggest names in electronic music.Charm Quarks are currently based in Asia, finding influences largely in Tech-house and Minimal. They have surrounded themselves in an environment where their creativity can flourish, proven by the success of Daniel Lyons’ recent releases and collaborations with other successful artists. He has recently had charted hits with releases on labels such as Minim.all, Hutman- Records, Kushtee Records and Vibe Lebanon Records, whilst also bringing his music to the Asian audience, headlining events in some of Korea’s biggest cities.
