Prok & Fitch vs Marco Lys
You Need Some
Great Stuff Recordings
Two of the biggest names to emerge from the UK's house music scene join forces with one of Chris Lake's favourite producers and collaborators for a spicy new release on Great Stuff.
Brighton boys Prok & Fitch have been doing big things for the likes of Toolroom, Axtone and Stealth over the last few years, building up an impressive following in the process and an excellent label in Floorplay Recordings. Lys, meanwhile, has features heavily on Chris Lake's Rising Digital, as well as on Strictly Rhythm, Cr2, and of course, Great Stuff. The trio's combined passion and experience makes for a slinky, sidewinder of a groove, pumping and jacking in slick style against a backdrop of groovy house textures. Undertones of tribal and techno lace the rhythms and percussion sections, with a classic string hook building things up in the breakdown. It's packed full of energy and sass without feeling too overblown or heavy-handed. A deft trick, if ever there was one.
Swedish master Zoo Brazil returns to Great Stuff with another of his typically charismatic workouts on the remix, inserting a womping off-beat bassline into the proceedings for maximum stompage and boiling that tribal tech lilt down to a mischievous minimal bubble. Heavily swung and highly naughty, it's a reworking for dancefloors and DJs that like their grooves tinged with malice.
