Deekline & Ed Solo went right back to their roots on single Countdown, teaming up with the Nu-Jam collective to flex an old skool 2-step bomb that just screamed 1996. The pair decided to put the track up for a remix competition, and picked the winner from thousands of entrants in the form of young up-and-coming producer Ben Tomlinson from the UK northwest. The 24-year-old studio whizz, who goes under the name Tomlinson, delivers a brace of mixes that bring the original's future retro vibe bang up to date for 2012.
First up, the Bass mix adds some tidy future junglism into the mix, adding a weight and power in the form of chunky beats and ruffneck low-end as MCs Rubi Dan, Harvey, Sparks, Midas, Hyperactive, Jay Mac and co deliver the frenetic vocal flavour. Next it's deep into dubstep territory as Tomlinson plays up the original's dubwise sensibilities for a skanking half-time outing that drops harder than Felix Baumgartner wearing lead boots. Two epic rerubs that make the perfect accompaniment to the stunning original from Deekline & Ed Solo's superb current Bounce 'N' Shake double album.
