'This time we can be forever young', says the song 'Forever Young' which does not accidentally flirt with Alphaville or 2Pac and which killer bass line is still days later in the ears. It is a line for the ages that brings the debut album by the indie/wave rockers from Koblenz well to the point. 'Zeitraffa' is a testament of growing up, or - as their singer Dennis New puts it - a 'Coming of Age' record.
At just 20 years CHAMPIONS have played more German clubs than football fields. In the studio of Blackmail guitarist Kurt Ebelhauser with producer Kilian Gutberlet, a record full of crunchy rock songs with rough guitars, infectious bass lines and plenty of pop appeal has accured.
Associations with The Kooks, The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand or Phoenix come to your mind when you cursorily listen to it. But it is those details, such as the percussion at the beginning of 'Dreams 2' - one of the few love songs on the album - the keyboard intro of 'Castle In The Sand'or the drum roll on 'Late', the Champions make so special. Above all sits the charismatic voice of singer Dennis Neuer, acting without struggles beautifully and contaminated.
The debut single 'Changes' has been a few weeks ago on the radio and enjoys great popularity!
