Venus Attacks Project is Guidance's newest recruit from France. "X 2010" is a track that explores new territory with its bubbling percussion, twinkling bleeps, and cold bassline. The synth washes create a suspended state of reality in which you can't tell if sounds are coming closer or fading away. The break creates a zero-gravity field before the track kicks back in with turbulent drums. The A-2 track is a funky downtempo diddy with a skippy drum loop, filled out by sharp acid jabs, an infectious guitar and the well-spaced refrain of "L'objektif est le planet Venus". The B side starts off with "Grass Culture"- an old school jack trax a la Frenchie. A Larry Heard bassline and Detroit string eventually break down into an uplifting Jamaican chant before gaining its momentum again. "Riviera Paradise" is the most emotive of the EP. Imagine a cold morning on the French Riviera, the wind wisps over the water as some warming chords break the monotony. A deep bassline plays up and down the beach and digital rays of light finally shine through. A small break and the day kicks in. The keys have shaken off the morning frost and the track begins its attack on the day.
