The sampler kicks off with "Lullaby," a nature-infused gem that is well suited to kick-off a house, progressive, or trance set. The artist behind this one is Marsh, who is coming off of a breakthrough year in 2012, as his "Sleeping Now" was a top-seller on fellow Silk Music division Arrival Recordings. The track was featured as "Record Of The Week" on Above and Beyond's "Group Therapy" radio, and this phenomenal British talent has also received support of late by Myon and Shane 54, Max Graham, Solarstone, and many other elite international artists. The tune kicks off with lush and moody pads, as well as the evocative soundscape of a rainforest at night. There are also intriguing female vox effects, a true artist signature. As the song continues, a memorable chord progression emerges and playfully sits atop a refreshingly "patient" groove, while the track subtly crescendoes toward the main break. At this juncture, the nature effects are solo'ed, and we are once again met by the poignant lead melodic motifs and vocal elements. The powerful drop to follow offers a cathartic release from the tension created by the ominous, yet richly melodic chords.
It's always a privilege to feature the work of Slovak sensation Peter Illias, who also appeared on last year's SRS compilation. In the interim, his tracks have been supported on radio by Above and Beyond, Solarstone, Ruben de Ronde, and many more prominent global DJ's. With a special talent for composing, sophisticated, deep, and atmospheric progressive and trance, Illias does not disappoint with this year's contribution, "Evolution." The tune begins with a deep bassline, chunky groove, and pensive, after-hours melodic texture. We are soon met by a hypnotic, celestially-inspired lead. Perhaps our "evolution" can only lead us beyond the confines of Earth? Adding to the brooding, contemplative atmosphere are heavily processed, breath-like female vocal stabs, which extend deep into each "phrase" of the song. In the main break, the "abduction" moment occurs, as the alien-like vox stabs and funky pad and synth effects transport the listener to a distant planet.
Finally, we are treated to another driving, melodic masterpiece by Rainbow Addict, a Russian veteran who has contributed to all three editions of the Silk Royal Showcase compilation series. During this period, he has amassed an impressive list of DJ support, including plays by Solarstone, Maor Levi, tyDi, and Richard Durand. In "Daniel's Dream," an extended intro, including mellifluous "teaser" chords, creates anticipatory excitement. Additional melodic layers join the main theme, as the track furiously approaches the main break. At this moment, we are met by a full-bodied, layered lead, which ebulliently propels the listener in a club-killing drop. Before the track reaches its coda, we are treated to an ethereal vocal array, a thrilling fixture in Rainbow Addict's music over the years.
