New Beat, the musical genre: A late 80's/early 90's short-lived, local and amazing underground dance movement from Belgium. Its main influences were the EBM/New Wave/Industrial musical genre (Throbbing Gristle, Neon Judgement, Front 242) and in parallel, a very European approached on contemporary US dance music with that signature slowed-down tempo. With almost no media support, New Beat ruled the dancefloors and took the charts by storm . It was totally independent and out of the mainstream's control before being commercially exploited to death by unscrupulous entrepreneurs, leading to an inevitable collapse of the scene. As a musical genre, it was very loud, heavy, naive, generous, and last but not least...very odd. Mainly released on labels like Antler Subway, Kaos Dance, Dance Opera or MG Records to name a few, some of the best New Beat gems are compiled here. Musique Pour La Danse, the Label: Collecting definitive and inestimably valuable works by key dance producers from the past and digging up classics, hard-to-find and unreleased gems from their vaults for your sole and only pleasure. Pleasure, that's our business. More is coming and not only from Belgium.
