The Band
Pentasonic started as a rock band in March 2012. Originally fusing the influences of 5 individuals from 4 continents. From the beginning the band have been Intent on writing, performing, recording and producing original music that doesn't fall into the standard "indie" category, the band have gone from strength to strength being quoted by the popular expat blog, Word From The ROK, as "a band with something special and one not to be missed if you get the chance to see them live."

August 2013 saw the band release their self-titled first album which is available to stream and download internationally from iTunes, as well as every domestic music distributor in Korea.

The band have enjoyed some exciting promotional experiences resulting from the release of their self-titled debut album including air play, and live performances on KBS Cool FM radio, TBS eFM and EBS eFM.

1. Black & White

How
I had performed a few cover songs live on radio, but decided I needed to play an original song next time. I went through old work and couldn't find anything that fit my current style. I wrote this song in a matter of hours the same morning of the radio performance.

Song story
It started being about a true story... my first, and only, speeding ticket! It evolved after that into a song about improving situations by looking deeper at the problems, not just seeing Black & White.

2. Do You

How
June had written the music for this song and it was a great tune. It was titled, but without lyrics or a melody. I originally wrote a whole different set of lyrics for the song. It was a love song... until the first time we played it live. I knew that I had to re-write the lyrics!

Song story
What do you see when you look at the world? I heard that looking from the DMZ in South Korea towards the North is like looking back in time. That got me thinking....

3. Sunshine

How
June had written the music for this song and it was a great tune. It was titled, with Korean lyrics and a melody. However, June didn't like the lyrics and melody, so it was passed on to me to re-write.

Song story
Literally... "Look outside, sunshine fills my life, keeps me satisfied, even if just for a while."

4. She's a Mystery

How
This song started with the bass line. Everything was built around that.

Song story
Secret!

5. Failure

How
Andy wrote this song when he was performing with the band. It was the first song we recorded for the album. Originally, this song was a soft, sensitive ballad that was very thought provoking and quite sad. A beautiful piece of music, but it didn't really fit the "PentaSonic" sound. The band got together and came up with this arrangement.

6. Slow it down

How
Technically, this was the second song written for the album. It was the written shortly after Black & White in late 2011/early 2012. I wanted to write another song that was jazzy & funky...

Song story
It's just about remembering to take the time to enjoy life... because it passes by pretty quick!

7. Sweet summer loving

Song story
It's a disco love song for my "better-half"....there's a lot of biographical stuff in here.
