  • Release Date 2015-04-20
  • Label Death Proof Recordings
  • Catalog DPR035
  • As most know, we at DPR love nothing more than introducing new talent and hooking them up with legendary artists too! Well on this release we have them in abundance!

Terrene is very much new by name but under his other guise, Gella, he's been making immersive, pulsating breakbeat & electronica for some years and to great effect, which has been championed the world over. With this education and acknowledgment in mind he's applied it to some majestic, dub-laden, tech house and techno that's crying out for the summer months!

'Meek & Humble' leads perfectly; with it's stripped back drumline starting proceedings, glacial synths tease it's way to an eager drop of huge techno bass. And what seems like a constant nod to Funk D'Void's or Laurent Garnier's progressive techno of old is subtely broken by an outstanding breakdown, with a nod to his ever-present dub tendencies. His second track, 'The Oldest Trick In The Book', is far from what the name suggests, it may exude mature proclivities but the production is truly futuristic throughout; great use of emotive keys set the tone with a thumping kick to start the tempo, before a grinding saw bass expands the track to really get the juices flowing. Then a series of constant and well executed twists and turns provide us with an awe-inspiring finish!

On remix duties, we have the great honour of bringing one of the most respected names in electronic music to the table, Simon Shackleton. Synonymous for his timeless work under the aliases Elite Force, Zodiac Cartel and countless other guises, recent times have seen Simon produce some of the most seraphic, momentous house music under his own name, and this has been applied with great effect to Terrene's 'Meek & Humble'. His signature drumline opens and rolls perfectly, before a warm rasping bass and clinical pads slip in. Then melodies take over with thoughtful precision whilst acidic stabs pulse to bring it home. An education in rapturous remixing.

And last but not least DPR patriarch Benjamin Vial changes things up in his studio (where he's applying the finshing touches to his first ever album) to apply a groove-laden take on 'Meek & Humble'. Maintaining the simplicity of the original he's indulged in a bit more acid house thinking with Roland-esque claps, snares and hats punching an popping . Finishing what is quite easily one of our proudest moments at DPR. Enjoy, indulge.
