The original mix comes with a lot of lovely elements, from bright tonal themes to a soulful vocal motif and full, warm groove with just the right amount of roll. A brief break introduces a strummy stab, further accentuating the soulful ethos of the piece, before stripping down into a short but heartfelt break. The focus stays on the dance floor here and as the third act commences one final tonal layer elevates the mood to a blissful peak.
The first interpretation of 'I Will Not Forget You' is provided by Stan Kolev who is making his ICONYC debut. The Bulgarian artist has been a mainstay of the electronic music underground for well over a decade. Releases on Armada, Blackhole and Spinnin highlight his discography. More recently Stan has been dominating Beatport's Progressive House charts with a string of outings on Beatfreak, Movement Recordings his own Outta Limits imprint. Here he provides a fresh take on 'I Will Not Forget You', beefing up the groove through warmth, character and timely modular shifts. Radiant pads soon descend over the framework, as percussive flurries and tranquil arps provide a magic moment, before the break reaches a tasteful yet euphoric apex.
The second and final interpretation of 'I Will Not Forget You' finds Mononoid returning to the label for their third appearance. The Dutch duo made their ICONYC debut in March of this year with a remix of 'Work' by Roger Martinez. July then saw the release of their chart topping 'Box Forest' EP which was nicely followed with EPs for Einmusika and Movement Recordings. Now back on remix duty Mononoid delivers a stunning rendition of 'I Will Not Forget You' to round the release out in style. Stripping things back a touch the Dutch duo craft a stark, punchy groove with a warm underbelly of free flowing bass. As the first act takes shape, reprocessed vocals and icy overlays work wonderfully together, building tension as the framework breaks down for a serene centrepiece, perfectly setting up a wonderfully wonky final act. A hugely creative remix from Mononoid and a standout on the release for me. Another great offering from John Johnson's ICONYC that is not to be missed.
