The mysterious G.Markus emerged this year with a hot D'Angelo edit that found favour with Nick Monaco,Moodymanc and Wolf + Lamb, and his first official release – his remix of Vibe Killers 'Question Mark' that we released last month. 'Hello My Name Is...' is his debut EP, with Soul Clap and Ripperton amongst its earliest supporters. Tried and tested cut 'No Not In The Face!' took the roof off at G.Markus' recent debut in Barcelona at Macarena, and sets things off every time. A chunky wiggling bassline thumps away under diva vocal edits, joyous organ chords and rolling percussion, making for a real fist-pumper. 'About Last Night' goes deeper, with shimmering, tripped-out Wurlitzers building the tension slowly before a snapping beat and a loosely funky bassline drop in. A kooky xylophone and cute synth motifs top the cake off, along with a field recording of a breakdancing circle in Amsterdam's Museumplein. On the remix front. Madhouse Records signings Marsupials give 'No Not In The Face!' a gently euphoric deep house workout, while C-Rock & Franksen opt for a tech house flavour with a classic break underpinning their wonky synth work. Fasika turns in a superbly grubby little stomper on his 'About Last Night' rework, withFewture & Freddie Glitch going for a heads-down, dubbed out groove.
