Jessica Phillipe first found 'House Music' whilst living in her hometown of Champaign, Illinois. At 19 she was practicing furiously behind her belt driven decks and tatty old mixer at each and every opportunity, whilst studying for her Systems Engineering degree. It was always the music that would win the day, and after a chance meeting with Justin Martin and Claude VonStroke at the Miami Winter Music Conference, this blossoming friendship would see Jess move completely to the dark side... dark, with big soundsystems and flashing lights!
Having broken her way into the 'inpenetrable' inner sanctum of the dirtybird crew, she has now earned her feathered stripes. Behind the decks, whilst her sound is definitely inspired by Chicago house, she doesn't allow her sets to become pigeonholed and always plays an array of styles and sounds throughout. Having moved to Berlin in 2010 for the 'experience', Jess's productions took a back seat as she worked hard on establishing a foothold in the European scene. Having now played to packed floors in Fabric, Space, Basics, Watergate and more, and become a regular on the circuit, its time for J.Phlip to build upon a production career that has already seen her release and remix for dirtybird.
Today she makes her debut appearance on Pets Recordings. From the moment Catz n Dogz heard 'Fever', they knew they had to have it for the label. As we've come to expect from J.Phlip, its all about the the 'booty'... or rather shakin' it. Combining old-school house vibes with some slick R&B styling, Lailah Reich vocals and deep throbbing bass, she has created a guaranteed summer anthem. On remix duty she introduces us to some exciting new producer talent. London's KRL, who's hip-hop and dusty soul influenced house has already seen releases on Wolf Music, turns in fantastic rework, powered by its big grinding synth. Meanwhile UK duo, Robb Grant & Chris Wyman aka. SO DEAF! plunge the original to the depths and deliver a beautifully tripped out moment.
