Following on from their last release featuring tracks from Alison Marks and Soul Phonic, Punk’ID are back with another top double billing. This time Munich’s Alec Chizhik & Markus Mehta team up for ‘Compass’ on the A side; a beautifully layered tech house treat, with gentle bongos and a bubbling bass line. While on the flip, Punk’ID residents Soul Phonic make a welcome return with ‘Down Breaks Avenue’, a fusion of minimal breaks, lazy beats and spacey electronics. Alec Chizhik was born in Moscow in ‘82 and raised by a family of musicians. In the summer of 2005 he graduated with honours in a music degree from the University of Munich. His first exposure to electronic sounds came in ‘94 when he was drawn to Detroit-Techno, Progressive and Tech-House, as well as more commercial styles. At 15 he started to produce music, combining these influences to create a style of tribal grooves, experimental sounds, soul-funk bass lines, and dimensional pads. He has since worked with the likes of Stephan Riedel, Roberto Q. Ingram, Michael Burian and Alex Flatner. Markus Mehta, born and raised in Munich, knew by the age of 14 that he wanted to be a DJ. “I admired the powerful effect music can have on people, and of course I had a burning desire to share music I loved with others!”, says Mehta. He has now been rocking parties around the world for nearly ten years. Personal invitations from luminaries such as Sven Vaeth & Christian Smith, as well as touring with Derrick May on his Hi Tek Soul Tour prove he is well respected for his refined sensibilities and excellent ability to read the dance-floor. Markus is also quickly establishing himself as a recognized and respected producer with projects on Exun and Circle Recordings. After more then 12 years experience in the electronic music scene, Quincy Steveninck and Ben Milo aka Soul Phonic decided to join forces back in 2002. Besides several releases and remix work for Coincidence records and Punk’ID, the Soul Phonic project is also very active on a performance level. The idea of Soul Phonic is to combine two different musical approaches into one sound system. Instead of battling, they bring an intensive cooperation, 4 hands, 3 decks, 2 minds, one DJ, that’s what Soul Phonic is all about. Switching over between house & techno they bring a solid combination of futuristic, Detroit and tech house injected vibes with a deep and funky touch!
