Heiko Laux debuts on Ovum with Canis Major/Lucho.
Berlin based producer Heiko Laux has been steadily releasing quality music via his Kanzelramt label for the best part of twenty years. Here he steps away from the reigns to make his debut on Josh Wink's Ovum imprint, working with past-time collaborator Diego Hostettler to produce this astounding techno two-tracker.The track begins with throbbing chord stabs, and a clipped tech-house beat, and then proceeds to descend on a hypnotic trip which takes the listener well and truly down the proverbial rabbit hole. Intoxicating cosmic arpeggios scatter around like shimmering ghosts, while a pulsating bassline swells beneath the surface. The track steps into dubbier territory on the flip, driving forward as before whilst filtering the chord stabs into a low ebb, creating an alien soundscape which leads this remarkable EP to its natural conclusion.
Heiko follows up "Canis Major" with another double whammy "Lucho", this time alongside Alexander Lukat. In Part 1, Laux and Lukat expertly cultivate a dank aura of seismic dread, dominated by a thunderous low-end which thrums beneath the surface like a beast from the deep. A dense latticework of hi-hats and backbeats whir and converge amongst each other, whilst pressure valves burst and hiss in the background.Part 2 flips the vibe on its head and invokes the ghost of rave to create a punishing techno workout that bristles with spectral hoover-like salvos, and an ongoing volley of classic chord stabs.
