First, the Don took you on an earthly "Voyage", now he's back leading you on an intergalactic journey. "Steppin' Upon Mars" (GDR034) commences with an ethereal intro and takes off with Don Carlos' hard kick. This basic track is layered with jumpy hi-hats and infectious washes and effects. The journey is cut short when the track breaks down to simulate landing. Both mixes of "Steppin' Upon Mars" prove how beautiful a simple track can really be. "Africano" is like a short musical in which Isaac Hayes packs up his equipement, throws in a kick drum for good measure, and makes a pilgrimage to Africa. However, the real killer on this EP is the downtempo cut entitled "Be-Bop". This track is something L.T.J. Bukem would be proud to have in his camp. Imagine effected voice loops, R&B pads, faux scratching, and heavy basslines. Put your seats in an upright position, fasten your seatbelts, and prepare for takeoff.
