DescriptionMontreal's Grandtheft, also known as GT, has established himself as one of Canada's most in-demand djs through his trademark high-energy sound, mostly incorporating his own edits/remixes and originals. To date, GT has delivered successful remixes for Steve Aoki (Dim Mak), Metric (Last Gang), Juan MacLean (DFA) and Drake (Young Money). Many of these and his highly-circulated white-label remixes have risen to the top of the Hype Machine popular 100 charts. Co-founder of The Eh! Team, and co-owner of Montreal's favorite little dance club, Blue Dog Motel, GT is also known as one half of the Team Canada DJs who this past year played to a crowd of over 100,000 in Ottawa for Canada Day Live on Parliament Hill and were selected as the official DJs of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
Through a happenstance encounter on a flight last year, a conversation was struck up with Plant Music's Stretch Armstrong which resulted in GT signing with the label. The first release is the stunning single Let Me Out due for an April 2011 release with stellar vocal by Alixe Turner (formerly of Fox-N-Wolf) and an all-star collection of remixes by three of the cream of the crop of new dance music producers: Eli Escobar, U-Tern and Danny Daze. Eli's remix, as expected, has one foot in the past with many classic house elements - dark piano chords, cymbals and claps - and one stepping into the future, this perhaps being one of his finest remixes to date. U-tern delivers an electro-house version that works in the big room as well as in the underground - no small task. Finally, Danny Daze goes way left, moving away from the traditional four on the floor with drums and a rancid low end that show his roots: "2 Live Crew meets Aphex Twin," to quote him.
