Kicking off with Lend Your Ear, Tarantulaz hit us hard with a dramatic haunted offering which captures the true feeling of a Saturday night main room with it’s clever arrangement. Peaking and dipping at just the right times, Lend Your Ear see’s a delightful cameo vocal from Frank McComb, a beautiful release from the drama unfolding.
Next up see’s another first for Papa with don of soulful house Robert Owens guesting on Step By Step. Tarantulaz also teamed up with Kiwi keyboard wizard Mark De Clive-Lowe for this song which is incredibly crafted and really hit’s the spot for all fans of soulful bumpy grooves.
Listen is a bouncy dub with killer vocal samples and synth stabs. Again dramatic in it’s sound it also offers up some hip hop attitude and is a perfect floor filler.
Tarantulaz are London based collective Sir Piers and Toni Economides (KV5) who initially made their mark with an amazing remix of Angie Stone’s classic ‘I Wasn’t Kidding’, which Piers put out on his Tarantulaz label three years ago. More recently, Sir Piers has worked with several top soulful-dance names on his other label Curious Records, including Shaun Escoffery, Monique Bingham and Los Amigos Invisibles whilst Toni continues to engineer for some of the most talented producers around including Reel People, Bugz in the Attic, Nitin Sawhney and, as Tarantulaz last year, the two put our their first single ‘They Forgot It’ on OM Records in the States and also remixed Peven Everett (of ‘Gabrielle’) fame.
Last summer they finished their exciting debut album, co-written with Frank Mcomb from Level 42, Ashley Thomas and Robert Owens, amongst others. Between them, their productions and remixes travel in the record bags of heavyweights including Todd Terry, MAW, Tony Humphries, Bob Sinclar, Pete Tong and Roger Sanchez.
