It took me a while to remember the story behind this one. I was clearing out my storage unit and I found this white label - probably the only one you'll ever see, unless you've been digging around thrift shops out in Palm Desert. We made this after the fifth and final Motel Express party. It wasn't supposed to be the last one (we were hoping to throw them for years) but it was epic. Hundreds of kids would head out into the desert, following a cryptic map from the Internet, and they'd stay out there for days - and at one point or another we'd run out of party favors or the generator would run out of gas and then we'd basically just be camping. Things got pretty serious that night, though. Usually the park rangers would leave us alone - they'd come by, looking for booze or fighting and finding neither, then tell us to be safe and clean up after ourselves. But that night, something changed. Someone's dad must have seen some news report about the beats frying your eardrums or the pills carving holes in your brain, because that night the rangers came down hard - all lights and bullhorns - right in the middle of Pezzner's set. Everyone freaked. Everyone scrambled. DJ Hutz dropped his record bag, vinyl flying everywhere, I think he only managed to pick up half of them. I heard Pezzner came back the next day and grabbed the rest. I also heard they found some kid two days later, hiding in the trees. Anyway, we got back to Hutz's place, high on adrenaline, among other things, and started messing around with some gear - he had a couple of drum machines, I'd found some random synth in a pawn shop (I don't remember which kind), and someone "borrowed" a DAT machine from the community college. We were just messing around, trying to carry on the vibe from that night, and then suddenly it was noon the next day and we'd written two whole tracks - our first. We pooled our money and pressed up like 50 copies. I think Hutz was supposed to be the label manager, but then he went off to business school and left Vince to handle it. Then Vince met some girl and moved to Phoenix. I grabbed one copy right before we all moved out of the house. I don't know what happened to the rest of the box.
