Sonny Jim has announced that his new highly anticipated album Mud in My Malbec will be released Friday, 24th June 2016 on Daupe!
Mud in My Malbec, will be the third solo album from the Birmingham native and UK rapper following his 2011 album The Psychonaut. The 13 track album (see track-listing below) features heavyweight artists such as Heems of Das Racist fame, ASAP Mobbs Da$h, New Yorks man of the moment Westside Gunn, The Purist and Mello Music groups Quelle Chris.
Producing the bulk of the album himself, this art house album is more cerebral and edgier than his previous works, offering a new take on UK hip hop promising to break from the norms that have become synonymous with the genre. His latest album continues to champion his brand of opulent blunt fuelled lyricism, whilst his tongue-in-cheek style adds an air of hip hop decadence.
Mud in My Malbec effortlessly fuses loops from progressive rock through to obscure Japanese anime resulting in a stylistic feel more akin to the likes of Roc Marciano, KA and EL-P than his British counterparts.
Sonny Jim said I am very proud of Mud in My Malbec, as an artist I feel that both my song writing and studio nous have matured. It is a piece of art unlike any other in the country, no one is rapping like this or over its production here. Listeners can expect extravagant rhymes over raw unpolished loops pops crackles, talking smack in a refined manner, sophisticated ignorance, excessive indulgence and an array of references drawing from all sorts of unlikely places I am eager to see how it is perceived.
