Caper is 24 year old Joe Lambert, a dubstep producer based in Southampton. Joe has been producing for the last ten years
and managed to secure his first release in 2002, a remix for UK Hip Hop crew EEDB. Since then he has remixed for the likes
of Ministry Of Sound and Universal and featured on a number of nationwide compilation CDs alongside some of the biggest
names in underground music. More recently Joe released the acclaimed single ‘Hybrid’ on Studio Rockers and for his next
release ‘Jump Up’ - the debut single to be released on experimental imprint ‘10 Against One’ - he truly shows his diversity as
Sweetie Irie is certainly one of the biggest names in UK ragga. At the age of eighteen he signed his first solo album deal with
Island Records releasing tracks such as “Money Honey”; ‘On & On” (with Aswad); “Margar Man” and ‘New Talk” (with Jo 90).
Through his music Sweetie has travelled the world performing at events such as Jamaican Sunsplash, Notting Hill Carnival,
International shows in Grenada, Trinidad and all the way through to Japan Splash. He has collaborated with numerous artists
such as Aswad, Maxi Priest, Ms Dynamite, No Doubt, Spee, Specialist Moss, Ed Case, Gorillaz, Roni Size, Scritti Politti and
On the a-side is ‘Jump Up’ featuring Sweetie Irie, a track that does exactly what it says on the tin! A slice of unapologetically
decadent bassline business with more than a passing nod to the garage origins of dubstep. In his own inimitable style Caper
fuses old skool garage breaks with ni skool dubstep sensibilities to create a track reminiscent of all that was about 2-step the
first time around. Sweetie Irie’s vocal grabs the attention immediately and all but demands your presence on the dance-floor
while Caper’s trademark bass adds to the pressure ensuring an irresistible groove. In a time where dance music often takes
itself far too seriously ‘Jump Up’ is a welcome relief for the ears and looks set to become a surefire club hit.
On the flip is ‘Nocturnal’ which finds us on more familiar ground and firmly back in the realms of dubstep. Here Caper delves
deeper and brings us another slice of future dub, matching Indian percussion and dreamlike soundscapes to good effect that
transport you to another place before driving synths and bass bring you right back down to the dancefloor. At once both ambient
and destructive, ‘Nocturnal’ is hard to define and pushes the boundaries of this genre, but remains unique throughout
encapsulating the strength and diversity we have come to associate with Caper’s productions.
10 Against One is an electrifying new imprint, blurring the lines between dubstep, ragga & garage and showcasing
some of the most exciting artists in dubstep and beyond... A subsidiary of the Studio Rockers label, 10 Against One
is sure to become a benchmark for excellence in cutting-edge music.
