Rick Carbonell’s passion for electronic dance music was ignited in the skating rinks of Tampa, Florida, where electro-funk, freestyle, and Miami bass dominated the late ’80s and early ’90s. By age 13, he was teaching himself to mix using nothing more than a cassette deck and a belt-driven turntable borrowed from his parents’ stereo. That early obsession deepened during Florida’s legendary ’90s breakbeat era, when he became a regular behind the decks at local venues and events, spinning the high-energy sounds that defined the scene. More than 25 years later, Rick Carbonell channels his lifelong passion into producing progressive-driven originals and remixes, both as a solo artist and as one half of the duo Weekend Machines with Lost Astronaut.
