Povi Tamu is a songstress for our times. Riding the groove between the sounds of yesterday's soul and the boundless beat of her own internal metronome, her singing and songwriting abilities are only out-shined by her stage performance. Povi began performing in high school playing most of the concert venues in Denver by the time she was 20, before relocating to Oakland to pursue music full time. Striving for more, yet always humble, Povi Tamu has taken advantage of her time living in the Bay Area. Collaborative efforts with Zion I, an exclusive feature on the new Amp Live album ‘Headphone Concerto’ and music in the works with Soulection’s own ESTA, it has proven to be a busy year for this up-and-comer. Her soulful voice invokes comparisons to Quadron’s Coco and Jessie Ware, while crafting her own vocal timbre inspired by but not limited to the true-skool hip- hop era, electronic, future funk, and classic soul. A true audiophile, with a curiosity for driving dance rhythms, and a passion for progressive music production, her sound has yet to be truly classified. With a number of solo releases on the horizon, festival appearances and live shows from the Bay Area to Denver this summer, Povi Tamu is approaching the ‘independent’ generation the way she should, one unforgettable performance at a time.
