mR, Matthew Hodge, Jason Peacock and Hunter vs are mR MahaJ & the BirdHunter. Their debut release, “Ownlight” came out recently on Handmade Recordings and has been turning heads and catching ears. Not only will they be committing themselves to recordings, they will also be hopping onstage to deliver their sound live and very direct.mR was Born in L.A. and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. Music has always been a vital part of his life. His first guitar and set of drums were given to him as a gift at the tender age of 4 years old. He has stayed on this music- centric path ever since, and along the way has grabbed influences from his early hip-hop B-boy days, his dark flirtation with Goth and Industrial music and finally a full immersion in the world of electronic dance music. His odyssey continues as brings a quarter of the necessary vigor to make mR MahaJ & the BirdHunter take flight.Jason Peacock (aka: J-Bird) hails from the San Francisco Bay Area. He loves and lives music. This is consummately manifested in his work with prolific and groundbreaking party and festival promoters, Sunset Sound System. Not onlydoes he know how to throw a mean party and throw down a mean dj set he is also valedictorian from Expression College with a degree in sound engineering. His primary goal in life is to facilitate dancing and bringing love and positive energy to this world through music. His contribution to mR MahaJ & the BirdHunter will be the perfect vehicle for this perfect aspiration.Hunter vs is a sonic ninja and his weapons of choice are oscillators, envelopes, filters and faders. He hails from the industrial wastelands of the northeast, and he immigrated to the Bay Area to be closer to one of the seedbeds of American electronic music culture. He spent many years perfecting his skills as an engineer and musician, starting both at an early age. Inspired by the modern day technological world we live in, Hunter brings these skills to bear on the music he creates for your audio pleasure. As he once put it, “More and more science is pointing to the fact that music may have predated language and led to the development of higher brain functions, and so I enjoy the irony of using very highly advanced technology to create what is perhaps one the oldest cultural vestiges of humanity.” A ninja and a philosopher; you can’t resist his groove.
Inspired by listening to his sister successfully master the flute, young Matthew Hodge tried his vocal cords out singing in a choir in elementary school. When he eventually made it to junior high in Anchorage AK, he and his father sat in the office of the counselor deciding on his schedule. The question of elective course came up, and whether it would be Woodshop or Band, whether he would carve out dovetail joints or carve out an unstoppable groove. The choice was simple, so he became a percussionist, building a foundation for himself musically, which really solidified his sense of rhythm and dynamic. An obsession with the guitar and other instruments was added to his rhythmic talents. He spent 10 years in New Orleans where he had the opportunity to work with legends like George Clinton. On returning to the Bay Area he started doing live PA sets with his friend Daum Bentley (Freaky Chakra), also started making tracks with SF DJ John Howard, and playing in the band OOH!. He’s the fourth piece in this quartet of power music movers. You’ll catch them soon on a stage near you. Please be prepared.
