Hennon
WLS Today / Walk With Me
Great Stuff Recordings
Hennon is an alter ego of Andreas Henneberg, the German producer who has built up an impressive body of work on labels like Soma, Ideal Audio, Paso Music and Piemont Records, Brooding, darkly-tinged techno is the order of the day for his side project which first appeared on Stephan Bodzin's Herzblut Recordings back in 2009 and makes a welcome return this year on Great Stuff Recordings.
WLS Today certainly shows why he's proved such a hit with Bodzin, with a simple undercurrent of electro-tinged drums underpinning a pitch-bending, whining synth and bleeps galore. Automation is key, with mind-bending delays, looping and distortion all playing major parts in bringing this track kicking and screaming to life.
Walk With Me eases you in gently, before gradually introducing an array of rasping, gnarly, discordant synths and twisted sounds. Intense, pulsating builds give way to minimal drops, heavily-swung percussion dancing amidst a backdrop of menacing textures and atmospherics. It's a track that's constantly teasing, niggling away at your brain while incessantly moving your bones. Stripped-back techno with enough meat to keep you satisfied.
