This is Dundalk, Ireland resident Cormac Murphy's 2nd outing on Molecule, the former being 'Oversound'. His 'Vapours' E.P. features two deep and stunning tracks which come best under the tag progressive techno. First up is title track 'Vapour'; from the kick off, tight 909 percussion elements get under the skin, filtered and echoed synths wave around the stabbed bass notes and a mysterious arpeggio cascades around the mix.
A neat section of the arrangement is a very acid-house percussion breakdown in the middle, something for seriously focused floors. On the flip but more of a 'Double A-Side' track is 'Star Lake', this time Murphy conjures up a classic Northern Exposure vibe with more Roland percussion tracks and a creeping slowly emerging heavily reverbed arpeggio lead-line. A brief break reveals the track's star moment, a dub-sequel offbeat synth reminiscent of The Shamen's legendary 'Hyperreal' (from their 'Entact' album). Don't miss this.
