Droid Recordings has always focused on presenting domestic talent. Thelatest EP's contributors are no exception. Kyle Geiger of Drumcodefame teams up with longtime collaborator andfriend Bobby Dowell. They both reside in the techno's simmeringhotbed, the American Midwest. They are among North America's chosenfew still representing techno in the place where they were raised andinfluenced rather then adding themselves to the over-saturatedEuropean scene. Both their world travels and a deep connection to theplace they call home inform their latest offering, TIGERWALL, a track inspired by Detroit Music Festival delirium. Geiger and Dowell combinetheir approach to sequencing and sound design to produce a uniquetechno cut with slight hints of psychedelia and funk reminiscent ofTronic releases. The flawless percussion and droning synth work buildfor a perfect 7 minute tension case. By the end of the track crowdswill have transcended beyond normal dance-floor territory. Material Object, who has already appeared on Droid remix duties tostellar reviews, turns in a clanging rendition of the original. Theenergy is taken up a few notches and an industrial swing is added tothe final mix for heavy hitting results. Droid is honored to host 2 of the biggest names in techno history andno doubt the most renowned of the label's remix roster, Edit Select(Percy X) and Speedy J. The final product of this song is taken froman edit Speedy J made from Edit Select's remix specifically for liveshows. The end result is a sub sonic journey into the nautical depthsof techno experimentation. Slow building oscillationsand rhythmic beeps move the track along slowly yet forcefully into theminds of audiences and DJ's alike. Hypnotic. Techno's latest maverick, Mark Morris debuts on Droid with a brilliantrendition that is sure to rattle, bump and hiss through the floor ofany festival, club, etc that DJ's dare to unleash it on.Morris turns up the sonic energy to a maximum yet manages to maintainthe fundamental groove of the original. The well paced development ofthis mix is certainly worth taking note of.
