Ten and Tracer's Konque debut is a display case of deeply detailed tribalisch audio knick knacks. Skins of hand drums vibrate within oddly shifting polyrhythmic frames, cut with the finest mechanical precision. Some warped reed instruments are connected to a chamber of hot steam. They play back from the room next door through a dodgy speakerphone connection. A young man pouring with sweat holds a portable tape recorder and hops up and down with his eyes closed. He blows a lungfull of air into clouds of heavy moisture and smiles, still looking at nothing.
Funky, soulful & raw, yet incredibly clean and precise, this is a striking work of audio art.
