Juan Miguel Camacho Sánchez aka Mig Dfoe is set to kick off the new label ZAUBERNUSS with his album debut “The Stone Master”.
Initiated by Riley and Jacqueline Reinhold from Traum Schallplatten, this label has been set up to release expressive emotional played music.
Mig Dfoe´s album “The Stone Master” is a result of long-term work with sequencers and the manipulation of sound. Over a period of 6 years he has learned to use them in many ways. Listening to the album one can solemnly remark: “there is a magician at work” or rather an “audio painter”?
To keep the human side in electronic music he plays all beats in real time.
His “laboratory” work, has generated with „The Stone Master” a courageous and fantastic genre bending piece of electronica.
Due to his way of improvisation, the listener is able to witness an ever evolving
“work in progress”.
Mig Dfoe has played in various rock bands but sees the electronic and techno side of music as his current passion. And these influences also show in his debut, which is not afraid of making adventurous cross overs in every possible direction.
Opening up with the “Behind The Hope”, this track generates ambience in a an almost classic way. By ways the most melodic and trance induced track on the album it lays this feeling next to much more abstract beats and sounds.
“The Thinking Course” makes quite a fantastic track having new school beats clashing with organ sounds and distorted sound that bring alive the fantastic moments of such a band as Cabaret Voltaire (“Red Mecca” album).
“Zomby” is a ghostly track, leaning towards rock music with screeching guitar like sounds... but at the same time worshipping a Dadaistic beat.
The album title Track “Stone Master” is an wonderful blend of dubstep like beats , MC vocals joining, floating strings and spreading synths.
A skilful collisions.
“Dreams Architect” expresses an almost airy-fairy-light spirit with longingly spread out sounds that evoke pictures of big rock plains and sky... on advanced beats.
“Amatea” picks up that spirit but intensifies and transfers it to another level.
“Hollow Hills (Mig Dfoe Remix)” originally written by Riley Reinhold comes here in an unreleased remix which seems just perfect for the album.
Maybe a highlight on the album this track sounds as if it was a “classic” of modern electronics uncovered-rediscovered, call it what you think describes it best.
“Histeria” picks up the flow with a similar linear beat programming but behaves more like a ”falling star”, venturing an excursion into pop while attempting a bit later a Joy Division like sadness.
”Broken” could be called the “most improvised” of all tracks, almost jazz like all sources are loosely approaching each other and then drifting away from each other in a spell bounding way...
If there is an ambient soundtrack on this album, it might be “Real De 14”. Less demanding and at ease with itself has a central position in the track list of the album.
“Reborn” is one of these spheric rather reduced tracks on this album that create space and are no too much demanding.
“Aqui Dentro” is the final track on the album and is written with the skill Man Parrish “Water Sports” wrote his wonderful ambient track.
The cover art was made by Gerardo Ochoa, who is a painter and filmmaker, from Morelia Michoacan and is influenced by Dali and Buñuel.
His art is very much based on disturbing Catholicism.
