Daniela Stickroth treats us to adelicious release on her brand new label, Lineal. Taking the idea of defying genre boundaries as its core concept, the label smashes our expectations of electronic music, beginning with this club-ready EP.
“The Slot” refers to a pilot waiting for the opportunity to land and likewise the sound reaches us from another stratum, formed high above the clouds. Stickroth peers into the misty obscurity and finds dry, off-beat, metronomic baseline. Using the precision of the pilot, waiting for the moment to drop, the track is fortified with the fizz of mile-high adrenaline. It swoops, swoons and eventually finds the moment to accelerate into blissful overdrive.
“Painted Girl” sashays into being. The girl of the title takes on the role of a painter’s muse. And despite being depicted here in warm tones, the techno created is mysterious, ecstatic and bristles with reverberation. What starts as a portrait turns into an expansive dub-techno landscape. From here Provocateur takes over the reins remixing “Painted Girl”. The interpretation gives the muse a slither of vocal that glistens in a broken slice of half remembered conversation.
