American artist Derek Howell has been a leading light in EDM for years now, with releases on myriad major labels, so it is with special delight that we present this special re-issue of his single "Stride" on Silk Digital, including three brand new cuts by some of our top artists. The Original Mix is a true microcasm of Derek's style: always-innovative production techniques and against-the-trends sound design. Funky synths, including a piercing, tremolo'ed lead, provide the signature hooks of this one.
Kobana and Hatchet have quickly established themselves as artists-to-watch in the modern progressive scene, with a flurry of elite releases on various esteemed imprints, including the recent Anjunadeep: 03 compilation. Their remix features a classic house rhythm and signature meaty, wide-stereo bass. The energy builds through the first half of the track, leading to an unexpectedly orchestral breakdown: in which piano and strings combine to rapturous effect.
New powerhouse duo Lanvary serve up an equally inspired take. Their interpretation is much more proggy, with clear influences from early work by Jay Lumen and Snake Sedrick. Yet, they truly carve out a style of their own here: edgy, high-octane bass, with gorgeous pads swirling above. As the track develops, the incisive lead hook of the original becomes more and more prominent in the tune, leading up to an excellent peak hour moment in the main break.
Finally, veteran contributor from Poland - Monojoke, whose past work for Silk has received support from the likes of Above and Beyond, offers a more chilled, progressive house-on-the-verge-of- breaks rendering. This one could be just as well dubbed a "rework," as Monojoke completely re-envisions the tune as a sort of inter-galactic soundtrack piece, loaded with new samples, spacial effects, arpeggios, and "live" drums. The breakdown is especially stunning, as you can witness the superlative styles of Howell and Monojoke coalescing into a whole that is truly greater than sum of its parts.
