In 2011, Silk Royal was thrilled to welcome Argentinian talent Airdraw to its roster, with the Above and Beyond supported "Olaen" EP. Our imprint's first release of 2012 is Airdraw's sophomore effort: a two-track progressive trance EP, seemingly inspired by the more subdued tones of the winter season. The lead track on the release is "Start," a collaboration with fellow Argentinian artist Rodrigo Deem. The track begins with a slow fade-in of a light, fluttering arpeggio; soon thereafter, the main percussion elements are introduced, followed by a lovely vox sample hook, which appears throughout the track. After a mini-break, a stunningly layered bassline powerfully cuts through the mix. All of the elements coalesce to create an innovative and surprisingly mellifluous contrast: delicate high octave arpeggio plucks counter-balancing the crescendoing low-end "roar" of the bassline groove. The second track, "Release," produced alone by Airdraw, is a sparkling dead-of-winter cut. Structurally, the tune suits the EP well: once again an aggressively layered bass underpins an otherwise saccharine-tinged melodic gem. In the main break, a gorgeous bell melody, in full post-winter-holiday splendor, casts a magical spell; it also succeeds in making the exultant drop to follow all the more incisive.
