Another year Another summer And, well, time for another Riva Starr EP. After the narrowly averted crossover success of last year's I Was Drunk, here come three more slices of Riva's trademark bouncing grooves. This time the inspiration moves geographically from the Balkans to the Latin peninsula and the highlands of South America and from Northern Europe's favourite pass time to other more international forms of recreational abuse. The first cut: Mucho Gusto (from Colombia) is a slice of pure unadulterated festival fun, rolling bass lines and brass stabs that have seen people jumping up and down from South Korea to the Midlands. Vuoi Fumar? Takes us into a festive carnival mood, staged somewhere between the cool of Notting Hill and the fiery heat of the Basque countries. And last but not least La Comparsa An underground cut for more chilled moods Like a hot summer afternoon at the Corrida. The last year has been extremely kind, in October Riva was awarded "Best Breakthrough DJ" at the Ibiza DJ Awards. Then in December he was "iDJ Player" of the year and "Mixmags Star of 2010". Riva has recently been recorded live in Miami (where he closed the Pete Tong Pool Party after the likes of Sharam, James Zabiella, Joris Voorn, Luciano and Richie Hawtin) for the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, and he did a compilation with Pete Tong (Future Underground on Defected). Some big gigs are also coming up this summer and he's currently finishing his next album with some very interesting (but still secret) collaborations
