Contexterrior introduces Diamond Dog, the new project from Cagliari, Italy-based producers Signor Andreoni and Acirne. Andreoni is a virtuosic jazz guitarist, but also known for his forward thinking production work, both solo and in collaboration with other names like Samim and Alessio Mereu. Meanwhile, Acirne is a video artist who began producing a few years ago, and she also is the founder of the new but already well respected T-Bet Records. When asked to describe the namesake of his 1974 album, David Bowie said that the Diamond Dogs were "all little Johnny Rottens and Sid Viciouses really. They were all rolling around on these roller-skates with huge wheels on them, and they squeaked because they hadn't been oiled properly. So, although Andreoni and Acirnes tracks dont sound at all like glam or punk, there is something irreverent and off kilter about their productions: Undercurrent is packed with details that play with one another, from woozy horn slides to nearly nonsensical bursts of voice. Dazed has an undertow of classic organ house, but disparate elements like the oriental melodic hook and the malfunctioning grandfather clock turn it into something more hypnotic. Finally, Mosaic is propelled by a stomping electro pulse, with swirling crescendos that taste like a shot of battery acid.
