The latest from Florida's innovative FastFWD label once again draws on the exciting talent pool bred in the southeastern United States. The artist known as Sandman is Sanford Rivers, raised in Louisiana but now spending his time in Chicago and Michigan. He's a fluent and accomplished musician, collaborating with the likes of Jeremy Ellis as well as with the FastFWD crew on the previously promo'ed "Goddess Of Groove" remix. Here Sandman brings "Latin Fire", a rugged bossa nova-meets-house music concoction led by an energetic piano line. It's heady stuff, filled with beats and jazz, and sure to grab major attention when dropped in a club set. "Latin Fire" is given a respectful and effective club reworking by Atlanta-via-Detroit house music don Kai Alcé. Kai has been holding down the deep house fort in Atlanta for years, and his production has found him collaborating with Ron Trent for Track Mode and contributing to Moodymann's Mahogani Music imprint. His remix brings the piano bassline to the fore, allowing the rhythms and lead lines to build over the course of its glorious nine and a half minutes. Deep jazz bliss.
