Sometimes the most unlikely collaborations create the most amazing results. Singer/songwriter Melissa Rapp was moving from the San Francisco bay area to LA. On her way out of town she stopped by house music producer (and Tarantic head honcho) Amit Shoham's studio. Session musician Daniel Schiffer was helping Melissa move and joined her for the visit. Little did they know on that summer morning in 2009 that they had stumbled on a recipe for magic. Within a couple of hours the three musicians had layed down the foundations for "Lapsed," a melancholy, jazz-funky downtempo track that beautifully combines Melissa's vocals, Daniel's bass and guitar work, and Amit's keyboard playing and crisp production. Amit Shoham soon recruited Andrew Phelan & George Cochrane (a.k.a Origami) of Prismatic Tracks fame, and BradElectro (Tarantic, Soulmine, TMG) to provide the cutting-edge dancefloor-ready remixes you would expect from the Tarantic label. Andrew Phelan and George Cochrane deliver a techy, bass-driven monster of a remix, and also provide a dub that strips away the vocals. The BradElectro dub mix showcases Brads nu-disco grooves, focusing on stuttering synth chords and a spacey synth lead. Amit Shoham rounds out the release with his own deep and soulful 'unrequited funk' mix, using the entire vocal from the original mix. Tarantic Records is thrilled to present "Lapsed" in five deliciously groovey versions, to be released on Feb. 3, 2010.
