Jonny Lawrence's Rebel Alias has been gathering steam over the last few months. His debut EP, 'Grass Roots' delivered a bona fide hit for Digital Delight and his own night, Save The Pony continues to shake up the scene from its Leicester base. Paying absolutely no attention to the rules whatsoever, a trait which first turned us onto him, the hotly tipped producer has already gained a reputation for his inimitable ability to fuse 80s pop culture and 90s dance music with the sounds of today's scene in spectacular fashion. The Lower East team are delighted to welcome Rebel on board with us with his Sophomore EP, 'Hearing Voices.' It is just the latest exhibit to highlight Rebel as the essential artist to watch in the coming months that we already know he is.
The EP showcases his innate aptitude for deep house that veers off into unknown territories over three new and original tracks. The title track builds patiently but full of energy until finally, the driving bassline rolls in and leads the way to the dancefloor. 'You Shouldn't' is a more down-pitched number, underpinned by shuffling beats and a beautifully stripped back and simple bassline. Flexing his idiosyncratic personality in true style, Rebel really mixes things up with 'Her.' An atmospheric and intensely bubbling house strut, this track burns away with tribal-like percussion and intelligent vocals in the top end as deep, grumbling bass murmurs below.
We are properly stoked to welcome another emerging talent into our ranks with Rebel and the 'Hearing Voices' EP. Just like the other talented artists on our roster, Rebel looks set to fling his influence far and wide across the underground scene. We're looking forward to helping him on his way!
