For those who didn’t know the origin of the labelname: the Wolfskuil is a neighbourhood in labelowner Darko Esser’s hometown Nijmegen. The city where the infamous club Doornroosje is located. And Roosje, as the locals call it, is the electronic music temple and basis & inspiration for many local talents. One of those ‘Nimma’ talents is Roger Gerressen, DJ-ing since 2001 and producing in his homestudio since 2006. The sounds that are coming from his residency are so wonderfull, that we couldn’t keep them from you any longer. The 3 featured tracks on this release are heavily dub influenced, wich is not strange because Roger considers Rhythm & Sound, Echospace and Baby Ford as highly important influences when he is making music. The way he incorporates these influences into his sound is highly original. Even though his producer carreer is only a few years young, he has allready found his own sound and niche. Just listen to ‘Hajastan’ the eyecatcher of the package: the track revolves around Arabian/ Indian samples, used in a very different way then anyone else would do. The sounds keep evolving througout the track, constantly changing and adapting. It’s one of those tracks wich will stand out in a set. On the flip it’s disco and jazz funk galore with ‘No School Like The Old School’, a peaktime house floorfiller, wich undoubtely will get lots of plays. Simple, catchy and with a hook that won’t leave your head for days. Closingtrack ‘When We Were Young’ is the strange one of the bunch. Suited only for the deepest of the deepest sets, this dub-electronica gem showcases brilliantly what Roger is allready capable of and holds a big promise for the future!
