Back in the summer of '88, acid house was all the rage. It was the beginning of these exciting times. A handful of these acid tracks really struck a chord with DJ's and clubbers, and can still cause many to enthuse with delight.. and one of them was Paul Rutherford - Get Real.
The former Frankie Goes To Hollywood man delivered a true acid house classic, produced by 80s pop icons ABC frontmen Martin Fry and Mark Wright, and has remained underground and a DJ favourite since its release, featuring on several compilations many years later, from Darren Emersons Global Underground CD, to Ivan Smagghe Presents Death Disco,
And so in 2013, a quarter of a century after its initial release, its back with hot new tasty remixes for your audible delight. Each DJ was chosen by us, as we knew that they had a love of this track the first time around through to the present day.
First up steps Darren Emerson, still a DJ and global favourite with his career steeped in history, including of course being part of Underworld. It seemed an obvious choice for us to let Darren loose on one of his favourites. His remix retains the original acid vibe, driving along from the off, with cool techie stabs, vocoder effects and of course the all important vocal. A respectful and superb remix that we're sure will delight.
Next steps another acid house legend Just Be, who again has had a huge career, and still does to this day. As part of Layo & Bushwacka, a name synonymous with quality, and more recently his Just Be moniker adding his magic touch to so many superb tracks. His Re-Rub starts with a techie groove, and then the original acid line and speak and spell voice adds a nod to the original '88 version, powering along but with a groove, Pauls vocals raise a smile and the backing vocals raise the temperature further. This mix certainly will cause a fuss.
To close the package, we find another stalwart of DJ's, as Pete Gooding who is famed for his decade of a resident at Ibiza's Cafe Mambo from 1996 to 2006, and is currently resident again this year, as well as playing throughout the Island, and the World.
Pete's remix changes the vibe, with its techie darker edged punchy peak time sound and melancholic edge, this feels mysterious and wonderful, whilst still able to raise the roof!
