Jim Rivers has had a fair old year, with his Global Underground NuBreed mix of tuneful deep and tech house turning the prodigous DJ talent into a, fittingly, global talent. His releases for the likes of Simple, Mouseville and Renaissance have done no harm either, but it’s this superb EP for the Bristol based Four:Twenty which really stands out. “By Any Means” is an intricately augmented 808 drum track which uses classic stabs to provide melody and depth while cunning key changes and well placed drops to make the 7 minute arrangement twist and turn splendidly.
