Ibadan Records label head Jerome Syndenham teams up with Kerri Chandler and a host of musical talents on four takes of this Brazilian inspired track and exhibit their musical prowess. One night at Betty Carters jazz show, Jerome Syndenham approached pianist Marc Cary to join in an improv studio session for Espirito du Tempo, inspired by the classic Brazilian folk song. Carys jam on the Fender Rhodes was sheer perfection, recorded in one breathtaking live take and gaining momentum, depth and euphoria all the way. Another night trawling the jazz clubs of New York, Sydenham and co-producer Kerri Chandler came across Randy Weston and Talib Kibwe and promptly put them to work on the sax version of the track. Kibwe pulls his part off with incredible virtuosity listen for the single note he manages to sustain for an insanely long moment. Phenomenal performances for a classic record.
