Torontos Daniel Dubb is the latest artist to grace Audioflys Supernature imprint with his Elekeza EP dropping late April and, backed with a remix from Gavin Herlihy, sits very nicely indeed with the labels roster of superb talent. Having already cropped up on the Supernature label in 2009 with a remix of Davide Squillace, Dubb has subsequently cropped up on Nic Fanciullis Saved, 8-Bit and Little Mountain Recordings, and his reputation is growing. The staccato, shuffling beats of Elekeza open proceedings and its not long before Dubbs fresh take on the percussive house sound becomes apparent with heavily delayed drums snaking wonderfully around the mix. With just a sampled disco refrain to contrast the groove, Elekeza is a confident and perfectly executed exercise in contemporary house. Harambee is a looser affair but continues the stripped percussive themes of the title track nicely, with just the occasional effect or razor sharp stab to interrupt what is a fantastic groove. The last of the originals, Tudou, provides what seems like the perfect bridge between its counterparts, where reverbd chords meet modern grooves and get along famously without too much fuss or fanfare. Cadenza, Cocoon, Kindisch and Mood Music artist Gavin Herlihy rounds things off with a rich, anthemic take on Elekeza. A clever arrangement builds tension throughout and, all in all, its the sort of cut that has made the Irishman continually turn heads for the past four years. Informed by the sort of hypno-house sounds of Dubbs DJ sets in his home town, the Elekeza EP is yet another Supernature triumph.
