After numerous remixes and compilation appearances for Thoughtless - both under his own name and his Myers Briggs guise - Arthur Oskan brings his A-game on this first full EP for the label. Equal parts Detroit, Chicago and Berlin, Eggshells and Tongue Tied are prime examples of late night dancefloor sophistication, with a focus on stripped-down, effective arrangements. Minimal in aesthetic, as opposed to genre, what makes the pair so special is what Oskan chooses to leave out; every extraneous element becomes a tickle of musical discourse that evokes a fleeting hint of mystery in the hands of his craftsmanship. Lucas Rodenbush (of E.B.E. fame) translates the centerpiece synth melody into a language of pure bleeps with his high-pressure interpretation of Eggshells, while Torontonian Jamie Kidd's rolling sub-bass, polyrhythmic shuffle and expansive reverberance only add to the hypnotizing power of his tracky deep house rework. Finally, rising Toronto dubstep champion XI accents the techier elements of the original before rinsing them out under a heavy stream of sweaty saw-tooth bass.
