Thoughtless is honored to welcome the collaborative talents of midwest techno heavyweights Adam Jay and Angel Alanis. Joining forces with two energetic slices of peak time artwork, 'Steam' keys the ignition with hypnotic synth textures, driving rhythms and a propulsive low-end tied together with the creative yet highly effective arrangement one might expect from two such skilled veterans. Relative newcomer Philip Arruda makes his debut on the label following two stellar EPs for Toronto imprint Roots & Wings with his rework of 'Steam', managing to retain the atmosphere of the original while injecting it with a serious dose of funk. Meanwhile, Thoughtless sound scientist Rodux reduces 'Steam' to its essential molecules, rebuilding it around a sturdy central helix of syncopated bass, pushing steadily forward through shimmering mirages as shards of decaying percussion scatter and swirl at the periphery. Finally, our title track provides an emphatic closer that melds the jacking drums of Chicago and the insistent stabs of Detroit with a contemporary finesse and plenty of low-end pulse: sweat, evaporating into steam, drifting off into the night...
