Here we welcome back LA's Android Cartel for their 3rd release on the label, having already given us the Notorious Saints EP (MIJA001) and the Robots With Soul EP (MIJA006). Entitled Dreams of NYC the Androids deliver 3 trax on the EP that take you back to a golden ear of New York house. First up, Taking Flight has a knarly yet soulful vibe that would fit into a classic Sound Factory style set from the likes of Junior Vasquez with a big rumbling bass, narcotic synth pads and heady strings. This has house sensibilities but with a big room finish. Track 2 on the EP takes a more percussive approach with a driving rhythm section and haunting ethnic chants that liken the track to a classic NY tribal sound but with new school production values. Think Tenaglia in a drum heavy phase of his set. Finally the droids drop us a Body & Soul style afro-house track in The Jazz. This track feels like sunshine on a Sunday afternoon and rounds off the 3 track EP showing the Android Cartels dexterity and willingness to try new out new directions. Android Cartel have had a multitude of releases on solid labels over the past few years such as ViVa MUSiC / iVAV Recordings, Railyard Recordings, Sleaze UK, Tokio Recordings, Fade Records and now their own Skethcbook. This EP further stamps them among their peers as artists of the first degree.
