Antti Mantysaari and Jarno Kilpia make up Finnish duo Soft Knees. The guys get together every few weeks for a weekend to see what type of music they happen to create during this time resulting in some stunning pieces. Here the guys make their Bonzai debut with the surreal three tracker 'Couchclocking'. First up we have 'Couchclocking', the intro fades in with whispery FX and a very cool bass which sets up the mood perfectly. A real slow groove ensues with melodic synths coming through alongside a sweet vocal. The track evolves beautifully as more instruments enter the mix with each providing their own cool melody, while towards the end another vocal pops up in a surprising twist. Very smooth downtempo to get you in the mood for a nice relaxing evening. 'Cirrus' sets off with a fading in bass and is soon joined by a sublime synth and contrasting melodic plucks. Beautiful chord changes make a huge impact on the sound and the track soon delves into a blissful world filled with melody and a backdrop of reverbed snares. A classic rock vibe is moulded into shape by a fantastic electric guitar sequence which works so well within the track. An epic journey not to be missed, superb stuff. 'Nebula Dive' takes on a spacey theme as you could imagine. The arrangement on the drums alone would be a perfect candidate for some of the early prog rock tracks and has a huge impact here. A melodic arp sweeps through the sound with a multitude of instruments bringing up the rear. Deep droning basses add a beautiful depth to the vibe. The tune matures wonderfully with the focus directed towards those big drums and melodies. Simply stunning and the perfect companion for those contemplative moments.
