After recently remixing Alexey Sonar's "Talisman' and Lank's "Needless Solution" on Proton, Silinder now debuts with a 2 track EP of his own. The Irishman has commanded attention after featuring as runner up in the Guy J "Azimuth" remix competition and coming together with Boshell and Cody to collaborate under the name "Coherent" for Particles. Under this guise, the "Archetypal" EP received acclaim and support from the likes of Exoplanet, Dapple Apple, Guy Mantzur and James Warren. With a further raft of releases and remixes on Lowbit, Baires, Stripped and Perspectives Digital, Silinder has certainly created a lasting impression with his music.
The "Corrupt" EP is a deep and thoughtful affair that in many respects parallels the EPs of DNYO's "Echo" and Nick Stoynoff's "Berlin Dreams". Reflecting the title, a dark sense of foreboding ripples throughout proceedings. This sinister atmosphere is an intentional tool used by the artist himself to depict antipathy towards the global economic crisis, keenly felt in Silinder's Irish homeland. In his own words, "Penthouse" with its slick beats and up-tempo groove is a metaphor for "bankers who are above the law", while "Pavement" provides a counterpoint with its air of melancholy, provided through melodic riffs and pads which, for the artist, representing "the normal hard-working person, making ends meet."
Motivations aside, passion is at the forefront of this EP and Silinder has produced something special for his full debut Proton release -- one of class and imagination.
