The fresh faced Frenchman Shonky treats us to yet another quality three pronged dancefloor weapon on his home label, Freak nChic, with Cluborama EP. Cluborama is the next in line from a string of releases Shonky has created in the last few years, including a stunning artist album on Freak nChic in 2008 amid a string of huge underground hits. The 29 year old first studied mathematics before finding his calling in dance music production, in which he has carved a magic formula. The title track has the feel of summer with rolling airy basslines, drifting samples and a faint call to dance. Maraboutage plunges deep into bass led grooves, weaving a tapestry of distant vocals into intricate drums and carving out a full-bodied tone. Last in the package, Dorothee Club is equally mesmerizing with another sensual bassline amid whispered calls and well crafted beats. Cluborama yet again proves that Shonky is a rare breed of gifted musicians one step ahead of his game. In music, one hit record is lucky. Two? Thats talent. Shonkys boyhood nickname means wobbly but theres nothing whatsoever shaky about his skills. He picked up many of his tips at Dan Ghenacias infamous Batofar after-parties, where he struck up a friendship with Dan, Dyed and the rest of the Freak n Chic crew. Passionate about music, but uneducated, Shonky started tinkering with computers, learning the basics of programming. His natural aptitude for producing was immediately evident. In the last two years his career has progressed by bounds with more instant classic releases and worldwide DJ dates. Hes a natural talent, raves Ghenacia.
